Health department sees problems with roadside food vendors
The Alamance County Health Department has received numerous complaints recently about illegal food stands in the county.
On June 9, the health department shut down two men selling fried fish on the corner of Graham-Hopedale Road and Holland Avenue. The health department has investigated about 12 complaints in the past few months. Last Friday, they received three reports of illegal food stands. Two were legitimate and one was shut down, said Eric Nickens, health department spokesman.
While the health department hasn’t received any complaints from anyone who actually got sick from food purchased from an illegal stand, the health department is taking “proactive” measures, Nickens said.
