Dallas, TX  (RestaurantNews.com)  Addison, Texas-based Razzoo’s, Inc. is pleased to announce that it has brought Cajun cuisine to North Garland, with the opening of a new Razzoo’s Cajun Café at the Firewheel Town Center in Garland, Texas on February 13, 2012. In its first three weeks, the new restaurant has already served more than 22,000 diners, nearly 30 percent more than what Razzoo’s had projected. Founded in 1991, Razzoo’s, Inc. is a locally owned and privately held casual dining restaurant company. Razzoo’s owns and operates 15 Razzoo’s Cajun Café restaurants in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, Austin, Houston, Killeen, and Charlotte, North Carolina.

The new 6,500 square-foot restaurant occupies a prominent “end-cap” location within Simon Malls’ Firewheel Town Center, which is a regional open-air, “Main Street-style” shopping, dining and entertainment center in north Garland. With hundreds of retailers and anchored by Macy’s, Dillard’s, and an AMC Movie Theatre, the center is conveniently located at the northeast corner of the President George Bush Turnpike (State Highway 190) and Highway 78 North. Razzoo’s is located at the corner of Paintbrush and Coneflower drives within the center, surrounded by free street parking.

“The north and eastern suburbs of Dallas, such as Garland, Rowlett, Sachse and Wylie have experienced such impressive growth over the past few years, and we’d noticed that our Plano and Mesquite locations were obtaining many loyal guests from these outlying areas,” said Razzoo’s Chief Executive Officer Jeff Powell. “We really liked the energy and potential of the Firewheel Town Center, and determined that it is the ideal geographical location to better serve these guests, as well as make many new friends.

“Our instant popularity here proves this was a good choice for us. We are pleased to serve this area, and look forward to many successful years here,” Powell said. Razzoo’s expects its new Firewheel location to generate annual sales of more than $3 million, which is in line with the company’s current annual restaurant averages.

Razzoo’s held its “soft opening” on Feb. 10-11, and is matching and donating the sales from the soft opening to Habitat for Humanity, along with the sales generated from the recent soft opening of its new McKinney, Texas location. In total, Razzoo’s is donating $38,000 to the South Collin County chapter of Habitat for Humanity, and Razzoo’s employees will be volunteering their time to help build a home beginning in April.

The new Garland location is Razzoo’s 14th in Texas, and is a family-friendly restaurant featuring Cajun/Creole cuisine served in large portions at value prices. With an average dinner check of $11 – $14, menu items include alligator tail, hickory-smoked ribs and their famous “Rat Toes” –- shrimp and crab-stuffed jalapenos –- as well as more traditional Cajun favorites such as gumbo, etoufee, jambalaya, seasonal boiled crawfish and raw or grilled oysters, and fat Po’ boy sandwiches. Lunch specials are $7.49 – $7.99, and Razzoo’s children’s menu features items such as popcorn shrimp and cheeseburger dinners for $4.29. Catering is available for groups of 10 to 300.

The non-smoking restaurant features a vibrant, full-service bar area and an un-covered exterior patio. Smoking may be accommodated on the patio. The full-service bar offers a selection of beers, including $2.25 domestic drafts, wine and large selection of cocktails, including Razzoo’s popular “Hurrycane,” “Gator Punch,” and “Swamp Thang.” Happy Hour is Monday – Friday 3pm – 7pm, with half-priced appetizers, boiled Cajun crawfish at $5.49/lb, $3 frozen “Hurrycanes,” $3 frozen “MardiRitas,” and $4.50 “Swamp Thangs.”

Dallas-based design firm Zero 3 delivered the restaurant’s project design while Lewisville-based commercial construction company Strong Group Inc. managed the construction. The new restaurant’s décor theme is consistent with the Razzoo’s brand, focusing on authentic images and items of Zydeco music, Cajun-Country food, Mardi Gras celebration and other aspects of Southern Louisiana outdoor activities such as hunting and fishing.

The new Firewheel Razzoo’s decor incorporates many of the successful signature design elements and themes found in other Razzoo’s Cajun Cafes, such as:

  • A “bottle wall” made of stacked colorful bottles with a matching “bottle chandelier.”
  • A large wall mural painted by local artist Dan Holzschuh, featuring the same Cajun character seen in Razzoo’s other restaurant murals.
  • Custom neon lighting and signage.
  • Interesting application of common materials such as corrugated tin and rough cedar planking.
  • Razzoo’s signature large “Trailer Park Tornado” lighting feature, which is a floating collection of items and artifacts commonly found in the Southern Louisiana and Gulf Coast region.
  • Custom-made furniture, as well as 15 flat screen HD TVs for prime sports viewing.
