Quaker Steak & Lube Nabs Fan Favorite Title at Buffalo Wing Festival
Quaker Steak & Lube’s fresh, never frozen, Buffalo-style chicken wings earned the Festival Favorite award at the 2010 National Buffalo Wing Festival, held over Labor Day weekend in the namesake’s birthplace, Buffalo, N.Y. The 71,000 attendees made The Lube their overwhelming favorite, outselling the 38 restaurants in attendance.
“We’ve been serving wings for nearly 35 years. Of course we’re a fan favorite,” joked Quaker Steak & Lube co-founder and current board vice chairman Gary Meszaros. “In all seriousness, it’s a real honor to win this award in a competition that every year brings out the very best in wings and sauces.”
“Quaker Steak & Lube always brings its ‘A game’ so I am not at all surprised it won the Festival Favorite award,” said Wings King Drew Cerza. “The Lube has been with the festival since the beginning and is part of the reason it has become such a big success.”
Quaker Steak & Lube served its first wing in 1976, but guests of the cook-your-own steakhouse showed little interest. So, The Lube starting putting a free wing on every plate. Now, they are The Lube’s signature item and America’s most popular finger food.
“I think it’s the freshness of our chicken and our range of sauces – from cool ranch to Triple Atomic heat – that really keeps the wing craze relevant with customers and makes The Lube a fan favorite, even outside America’s number one wing festival,” added Meszaros.
