Growing Concepts of Multi Unit Operators
Concepts that have grown by at least 5% (if less than 50 units).

Mclean, VA-based VAPIANO (founded 2002) has increased by 24 units, from 106 to 130 (23% growth) and entered into FL, Brazil, Bahrain, and Norway.  This is a fast casual Italian concept, open for lunch and dinner, with a $10-$30+ per person check average.  The restaurants have full bar and seating for around 150.  Online ordering is available.  Locations are franchised and trade in DC, FL, IL, MD, NC, NY, VA and 27 other countries worldwide.

Michigan-based SWEETWATERS COFFEE & TEA (founded 1994) has increased by 1 unit, from 3 to 4 (33% growth).  This quick serve bakery/cafe concept is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a $4-$12+ per person price range.  Units seat about 20 and offer catering.  Franchising is available.  All locations are in MI.

Portsmouth, NH-based TIO JUAN’S MARGARITAS MEXICAN RESTAURANT (founded 1985) has increased by 1 unit, from 23 to 24 (4% growth).  The restaurants are family/casual, with an $8-$20+ per person check average.  Full bar service is available and seating is for about 150.  The restaurants have banquet facilities.  Locations are franchised and trade in CT, MA, ME, NH, and PA.

Florida-based AL’S PIZZA (founded 1988) has increased by 1 unit, from 6 to 7 (17% growth).  These quick serve pizzerias are open for lunch and dinner, with a $4-$12+ per person price range.  The restaurants serve beer and wine and seat around 50.  Catering and delivery are available.  All stores are in FL.

ARDOVINO’S PIZZA AND ITALIAN RESTAURANT of El Paso, TX (founded 1961) has increased by 1 unit, from 3 to 4 (33% growth).  These are family/casual restaurants with seating for around 50.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $8-$20.  Catering is offered.  All locations are in TX.

CHEF GEOFF’S of Washington, DC has increased by 1 unit, from 3 to 4 (33% concept growth) for Chef Geoff’s.  These are upscale restaurants with full bar and seating for around 80.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $15-$50+.  There is a second company concept called Lia’s (1 unit).  Overall company growth is from 4 to 5 (25% growth).  Catering and banquet services are offered.  Locations are in DC, MD and VA.

FIG & OLIVE headquartered in New York, NY has increased by 1 unit, from 5 to 6 (20% growth).  These are upscale Mediterranean restaurants with full bar and seating for around 125.  Meal periods are breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $15-$50+.  Catering and banquet services are offered.  Locations are in CA and NY.

Lake Mary, FL-based GATOR’S DOCKSIDE (founded 1991) has increased by 2 units, from 18 to 20 (11% concept growth).  The company also operates Mickey Finn’s (1 unit).  Overall company increase was from 19 to 21 (11% company growth).  The restaurants are family/casual, open for lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is $8-$20, serving American cuisine.  The restaurants have full bar service and seating for about 350.  Franchising is available.  All locations are in FL.

Orlando, FL-based FLIPPERS PIZZERIA (founded 1987) has increased by 3 units, from 11 to 14 (27% growth).  This family/casual concept is open for lunch and dinner, with a $4-$12+ per person check average.  Beer and wine are served and seating is for about 30.  Catering, delivery, online ordering and private party services are available.  All locations are in FL.

Toledo, OH-based MARCO’S PIZZA (founded 1978) has increased by 110 units, from 321 to 431 (34% growth) and entered into KS, MN, MS, NY, PA, SD, and WV.  The restaurants are quick serve, open for lunch and dinner, with a $4-$12+ per person price range.  The units have limited seating and offer catering, online ordering and delivery services.  All stores are franchised and trade in AL, AR, AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, ND, NE, NV, NY, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, VA, WI, and WV.  We last wrote about this concept on 10/2/12 (14% growth).

CORNER BAKERY CAFE of Dallas, TX (founded 1991) has increased by 4 units, from 148 to 152 (3% growth) and expanded into NM and RI.  These are fast casual bakery/cafes with seating for around 80.  Meal periods are breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $4-$12+.  Catering, delivery and patio seating are available.  Locations are in AZ, CA, CO, DC, FL, GA, IL, MD, MS, NJ, NM, NY, PA, RI, TX, UT and VA.   We last reported on this concept on 10/23/13 (10% growth).
