Growing Concepts
Concepts that have grown by at least 5% (if less than 50 units).

Houston, TX-based FADI’S MEDITERRANEAN GRILL has increased by 1 unit for the Fadi’s concept, from 6 to 7 (17% concept growth).  The company also operates a 2-unit frozen yogurt concept called Fruituzy.  Overall company increase was from 8 to 9 (13% growth).  This is a fast casual Mediterranean concept, open for lunch and dinner.  Per person price range is $6-$12 and seating is for around 200.  Catering and private party services are available.  All locations are in TX.

JACK’S FAMILY RESTAURANTS of Birmingham, AL (founded 1960) has increased by 1 unit, from 111 to 112 (1% growth).  These are quick serve restaurants with seating for around 20.  Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served.  Drive thru service is offered and franchising is available.  Locations are in AL, GA, MS and TN.

Emerging and Re-emerging Concepts

Winston Salem, NC-based EAST COAST WINGS (founded 1995) has increased by 3 units, from 18 to 21 (17% growth).  This is a family/casual concept, specializing in chicken wings.  Locations serve beer and have an average per person price range of $6-$12.  Average seating is for 100 and catering service is available.  Units are franchised and trade in NC.

EL MEZCAL MEXICAN RESTAURANT of Cordova, TN has increased by 3 units, from 6 to 9 (50% growth) and expanded into MS.  These are family/casual Mexican restaurants with full bar and seating for around 125.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $6-$15+.  Banquets are available.  Locations are in MS and TN.

Sterling Heights, MI-based JET’S PIZZA (founded 1978) has increased by 19 units, from 247 to 266 (8% growth) and entered into SC.  This is a take-out/delivery pizzeria, open for lunch and dinner.  Online ordering is available.  Stores are franchised and trade in AL, FL, GA, IL, IN, KY, MI, MN, NC, OH, SC, TN, TX, and WI.  We last featured this concept on 6/28/11 (8% growth) and on 11/29/11 (8% growth).

Lubbock, TX-based ABUELO’S MEXICAN FOOD EMBASSY (founded 1989) has increased by 9 units, from 32 to 41 (28% growth).  These are family/casual restaurants, open for lunch and dinner, with a $10-$30 per person check average.  Full bar is served and seating is for about 250.  Catering is available.  Trading areas are AR, AZ, FL, IN, KS, KY, MI, MO, OH, OK, SC, TN, TX, VA, and WI.  We featured this concept on 12/21/10 (3% growth).

Colonia, NJ-based MUSCLE MAKER GRILL (founded 1995) has increased by 15 units, from 41 to 56 (37% growth) and entered into PA and TX.  This fast casual sandwich concept is open for lunch and dinner, with a $4-$10 per person price range.  Units have seating for about 30.  Delivery is available.  Locations are franchised and trade in CA, FL, NJ, NY, PA, and TX.  We wrote about this concept on 3/1/11 (10% growth) and on 7/12/11 (24% growth).

EDO JAPAN based in Calgary, AL (founded 1977) has increased by 2 units, from 104 to 106 (2% growth).  These are fast casual Japanese restaurants with seating for around 40.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $6-$12.  Franchising is offered.  Locations are in AB, BC, CA, HI, NM, ON, PQ, SK, UT and WA.  We last reported on this concept on 10/11/11 (2% growth).

FATBURGER based in Santa Monica, CA (founded 1952) has increased by 9 units, from 103 to 112 (9% growth).  These are fast casual restaurants with seating for around 50.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $3-$8.  Locations are more than 60% franchised and are in AB, AZ, BC, CA, FL, GA, MD, NE, NJ, NV, SK and WA.  We wrote about this concept on 12/20/11 (1% growth).

GOLD STAR CHILI based in Cincinnati, OH (founded 1965) has increased by 5 units, from 93 to 98 (5% growth).  These are quick serve restaurants with seating for around 50.  Meal periods are breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $3-$8.  Locations are more than 90% franchised and are in IN, KY and OH.  We last featured this concept on 10/11/11 (2% growth).
