South Kingstown bakery holds a contest to find a buyer


The owners of a tiny village bakery have a sweet deal for you.

For just $59.95 — plus an earnest essay — you could win their nine-year-old business, Sweet Cakes Bakery & Cafe, which last year generated $500,000 in sales as customers gulped coffee with chocolate pudding cake, snicker doodles and raspberry-almond linzers.

Rosengarden and co-owner Sarah Patten kicked off their win-a-bakery contest Friday. They hope to generate at least $250,000 in entry fees, their asking price for the business.
