Franchise scouts multi-unit developers in Halifax, Quebec, Newfoundland & Labrador and Toronto for expansion opportunities

Sunny Street Café Expands to Eastern Canada Through 40-Store Franchise AgreementColumbus, OH  (RestaurantNews.com)  Emerging, breakfast-lunch chain Sunny Street Café® has signed a development agreement for Eastern Canada, continuing the chain’s planned expansion in the country.  The agreement builds on one currently in place with TriLeRiPer Holdings that also includes development into Western Canada.

“We see an excellent opportunity to fill a need in the breakfast and lunch categories in both Eastern and Western Canada,” said Scott Moffitt, Sunny Street Café president. “As a franchise, it’s important to adapt to today’s consumer needs. Breakfast has seen consistent gains over the years as consumers become more health-conscious and aware of breakfast’s importance to your health. Our restaurants offer a variety of healthy, locally-sourced food choices and family-friendly menu options. We’ve also added a bakery display at select locations for on-the-go options.”

The new development agreement covers OntarioQuébec, and the Maritime Provinces.  The Western development territories include the four western Canadian provinces and three northern territories.

Area developer Percy Johnson and his company TriLeRiPer Holdings will helm the expansion throughout Canada. “It made sense for us to work with Percy to develop the entire country due to his extensive franchise experience and connections nationwide,” Moffitt said.

Johnson plans to open at least 40 locations across Eastern Canada in addition to 40 stores in Western Canada.  Ideal trade areas and real estate locations have been scouted in Halifax, Quebec, Newfoundland & Labrador and Toronto.  “We’ve done our homework in regards to site selection, construction costs and establishing a strong vendor network of suppliers,” Johnson said.  “We’re ready to begin rapid growth and target multi-unit developers that are interested in the underserved breakfast-lunch segment.”

Sunny Street Café plans to stick to their development roots when analyzing potential sites, identifying in-line real estate space in shopping centers with a big box anchor.  Construction costs are relatively low versus free standing and build-to-suit real estate and move more quickly.  “We’ve found that once we’ve locked down the space, build out typically takes less than 90 days,” Moffitt said.
