Weston Dining Group Announces Leadership Changes


The Weston Dining Group (WDG) has promoted Walter Ruano, former General Manager of East City Grill, to the position of Director of Operations of its Wine Division, it was announced today by Jamie McDonnell, CEO of the Weston Dining Group.  In his place, McDonnell has named restaurant veteran Patrick Morey as the new General Manager of East City Grill, the Weston Dining Group’s award winning fine dining restaurant located in the Weston Town Center.

In his role as Director of Operations of the Weston Dining Group’s Wine Division, Walter Ruano will oversee and manage the daily operations of WDG’s wine concepts which include Libation The Love of Wine located in the Weston Town Center, That Wine Place located in The Shops at Pembroke Gardens; and the new Las Olas Wine Café which will soon be opening in downtown Fort Lauderdale.  A true wine aficionado and connoisseur with over twenty years of experience, Ruano brings to his new position a vast knowledge of the different vintages, varietals and wine and food pairings.  Prior to joining East City Grill, he served as General Manager of Bistro 17.

As the new General Manager of East City Grill, Morey will be responsible for the day-to-day dining and business operations of the popular upscale continental restaurant.  Morey plans to introduce a new menu in early September which will feature an extensive array of fresh seafood dishes and a wondrous presentation of lamb, veal, pork, and prime beef.  A diverse selection of poultry, pastas, salads, creative appetizers and decadent desserts will round out the new menu. A nearly lifelong resident of South Florida, Morey has worked in the local hospitality industry for his entire professional career.  He previously served as General Manager of the popular Jackson’s Steakhouse during the renowned restaurant’s debut in 1997 until it closed its doors in July 2009.  Prior to that he had successful positions at a number of South Florida dining establishments including the highly regarded Chameleon restaurant where he was an operating partner.  A Cardinal Gibbons High School graduate, Morey attended Georgetown University in Washington, DC and returned to Fort Lauderdale after graduation.  He currently resides in Victoria Park which he has called home for nearly 15 years.
