Wisconsin to issue new food-safety rules
Upcoming changes to state food rules could add confusion for Wisconsin residents but also might provide easy access to restaurant inspection reports, officials say.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration released its new food code in the fall and Wisconsin’s version is expected to come out this year, said Nancy Eggleston, Wood County environmental health and communicable disease supervisor.
“They will be quite a bit different, more wordy, and not all that easy for the general public to understand,” Eggleston said.
An example of a change could be altering the classification of potentially hazardous food, such as raw chicken, to “temperature control for safety,” or its initials, TCS.
Local health authorities won’t know what the new state food code will look like until the final draft is done.
