Restaurant Chain Growth Report Growing Concepts
Concepts that have grown by at least 5% (if less than 50 units).

MANCHU WOK based in Markham, ON (founded 1980) has increased by 1 unit, from 155 to 156 (1% growth).  These are fast casual Chinese restaurants serving lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $3-$8.  Catering and patio seating are available.  Locations are more than 70% franchised and are in AB, AK, AL, AZ, BC, CA, CO, FL, GA, HI, IL, KS, KY, MB, MD, MN, MO, MS, NB, NC, NJ, NS, NV, NY, OH, OK, ON, PQ, SC, SK, TX, UT, VA and WA.

South Dakota-based BOSS’ PIZZA & CHICKEN (founded 2005) has increased by 1 unit, from 3 to 4 (33% growth).  This pizza buffet concept is open for lunch and dinner, with a $6-$12 per person check average.  Units serve beer and have seating for about 50.  Catering and delivery options are available.  All locations are in SD.

Indiana-based GELSOSOMO’S PIZZERIA (founded 1979) has increased by 1 unit, from 6 to 7 (17% growth).  This fast casual Italian & pizza concept is open for lunch and dinner, with a $4-$12+ per person price range.  Beer and wine are served and average seating is for about 100.  Catering, delivery and private party services are available.  Trading areas are IN and MI.

ON TAP SPORTS CAFE based in Birmingham, AL has increased by 1 unit, from 3 to 4 (33% growth).  These are family/casual cafés with full bar and seating for around 150.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $6-$15+.  Catering and patio seating are available.  All locations are in AL.

ONCE UPON A BAGEL of Highland Park, IL (founded 1982) has increased by 1 unit, from 4 to 5 (25% growth).  They added a new concept called Once Upon a Deli.  Other company concepts are Mean Weiner (1), Once Upon A Bagel (2) and Once Upon A Grill (1).  These are quick serve bakery/cafés with seating for around 80.  Meal period are breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $4-$10.  Banquets and catering are offered.  All locations are in FL.

Arizona-based CARAMBA MEXICAN FOOD has increased by 1 unit, from 4 to 5 (25% growth).  This family/casual Mexican concept is open for lunch and dinner, with a $6-$15+ per person check average.  Beer and wine are served and seating is for about 80.  Catering service is available.  All locations are in AZ.

PINCHERS CRAB SHACK based in Fort Myers Beach, FL has increased by 1 unit, from 7 to 8 (14% growth).  These are family/casual seafood restaurants with full bar and seating for around 200.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $8-$20.  Catering and patio seating are available.  All locations are in FL.

Boca Raton, FL-based ROTELLI PIZZA & PASTA (founded 1999) has increased by 8 units, from 22 to 30 (36% growth) and entered into CO.  This family/casual Italian & pizza restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, with a $6-$15+ per person check average.  The restaurants serve beer and wine and seat about 100.  Catering and delivery options are available.  All units are franchised and trade in CO, FL, NC, OH, PA, and SC.

Dallas, TX-based DALLAS RESTAURANT GROUP has increased by 1 unit, from 3 to 4 (33% growth) with the addition of a new concept called Chop House Burger.  Other company concepts are Dallas Chop House (1), Dallas Fish Market (1), and Wild Salsa (1).  These are upscale steak & seafood concepts, open for lunch and dinner, with a $15-$50+ per person check average.  The restaurants have a full bar service and average seating for about 225.  Catering and banquet services are available.  All the restaurants are located in TX.  A fifth concept called Urban Wok scheduled to open in Dallas, TX later this year.

Maine-based AROMA JOE’S (founded 2000) has increased by 4 units, from 11 to 15 (36% growth).  This quick serve coffee shop is open for breakfast and lunch hours, with a $2-$6 per person price range.  Locations are take-out only, with drive-thru service.  Trading area are ME and NH.

Winters, CA-based BUCKHORN RESTAURANT GROUP (founded 1999) has increased by 2 units for the Buckhorn Grill concepts, from 9 to 11 (22% concept growth) and entered into NY.  Other concepts are Buckhorn Steakhouse (1) and Putah Creek Café (1).  Overall company increase was from 11 to 13 (18% growth).  These are family/casual restaurants, serving mostly American cuisine.  Per person check average is $10-$30, with full bar service and seating for about 80.  Catering and online ordering are available.  Locations are in CA and NY.

Boulder, CO-based WOK & ROLL TERIYAKI (founded 1994) has increased by 2 units, from 2 to 4 (100% growth).  This fast casual Japanese concept is open for lunch and dinner, with a $6-$15+ per person price range.  Units seat about 80 and offer catering and delivery service.  All units are in CO.  Franchise opportunities are available.

PIZZA 9 based in Albuquerque, NM (founded 2008) has increased by 3 units, from 10 to 13 (30% growth).  These are quick serve restaurants with seating for around 40.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $6-$12.  Catering, delivery and patio seating are available.  Franchising is available.  Locations are in NM.

Maryville, TN-based LIME FRESH MEXICAN GRILL (founded 2004) has increased by 3 units, from 23 to 26 (13% growth) and entered into OH.  The restaurants are fast casual, open for lunch and dinner.  Per person price range is $6-$15+, serving beer and wine.  Seating is for around 70.  Catering is available.  Locations are franchised and trade in AL, DC, FL, MD, NC, OH, and VA.  Lime Fresh is a subsidiary of Ruby Tuesday.  We wrote about this concept on 4/24/12 (100% growth) and on 12/11/12 (28% growth).

Scarborough, ME-based PORTLAND PIE CO (founded 1997) has increased by 1 unit, from 5 to 6 (20% growth).  These fast casual pizzerias are open for lunch and dinner, with a $4-$12+ per person price range and serving beer and wine.  Units have limited seating and offer delivery service.  Locations are in ME and NH.  We last featured this concept on 10/16/12 (25% growth).
