Growing Concepts
Concepts that have grown by at least 5% (if less than 50 units).

JACK’S FAMILY RESTAURANTS based in Birmingham, AL (founded 1960) has increased by 10 units, from 112 to 122 (9% growth).  These are quick serve restaurants serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $4-$12+.  Locations are in AL, GA, MS and TN.

Corona Del Mar, CA-based GINA’S PIZZA & PASTARIA (founded 1975) has increased by 1 unit, from 6 to 7 (17% growth).  This family/casual Italian and pizza concept is open for lunch and dinner, with a $6-$15+ per person check average.  The restaurants serve beer and wine and have seating for about 150.  Catering, banquet, delivery and online ordering services are all available.  All locations are in CA.

Calgary, AB-based HUMPTY’S FAMILY RESTAURANTS (founded 1977) has increased by 1 unit, from 46 to 47 (2% growth).  The restaurants are family/casual, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is $6-$15+, with seating for about 100.  The restaurants are franchised and trade in AB, BC, MB, and SK.

Florida-based KUMO JAPANESE STEAKHOUSE has increased by 1 unit, from 2 to 3 (50% growth).  The restaurants are upscale, open for lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is $15-$50+.  Beer and wine are served and seating is for around 125, with banquet services.  All the restaurants are in FL.

Whitefish, MT-based GLACIER RESTAURANT GROUP (founded 2007) has increased by 2 units for the Mackenzie River Pizza concept, from 16 to 18 (13% concept growth) and entered into ND.  Other company concepts include Ciao Mambo (4), Latitude 48 (1), and The Craggy Range Bar & Grill (1).  Overall company increase was from 22 to 24 (9% growth).  The restaurants are mostly family/casual, open for lunch and dinner.  Per person check average ranges from $6-$15+ per person.  Locations have full bar and average seating is for about 150.  Catering, banquet and delivery services are all available.  Trading areas are ID, IN, MT, ND, and WA.

California-based EUREKA BURGER (founded 2009) has increased by 2 units, from 6 to 8 (33% growth).  The restaurants are family/casual, open for lunch and dinner.  Per person price range is $8-$20+, with full bar and seating for around 80.  All units are in CA.

PIZZA INN of The Colony, TX, (founded 1958) has increased by 8 units for Pie Five Pizza, from 6 to 14 (133% concept growth) and expanded into UT and KS.  These are fast casual restaurants with seating for around 50.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $4-$12+.  The Pizza Inn concept has 300 locations.  Overall company growth is from 306 to 314 (3% company growth).  Locations are more than 90% franchised and are in AL, AR, GA, IL, KS, KY, LA, MO, MS, NC, NM, OK, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT and VA.

New York, NY-based LENNY’S GROUP LLC (founded 1989) has increased by 2 units, from 13 to 15 (15% growth).  The Lenny’s restaurants are fast casual sandwich shops, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Per person price range is $4-$12+.  Units seat about 30 and offer catering, delivery and online ordering services.  All the restaurants are located in NY.

Roanoke, VA-based MACADO’S (founded 1978) has increased by 1 unit, from 18 to 19 (6% growth) and entered into TN.  The restaurants are family/casual, specializing in salads and sandwiches.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner, with a $6-$15+ per person check average.  Locations have full bar service and seating for about 150.  Catering and delivery are available.  Trading areas are NC, TN, VA, and WV.  We last wrote about this concept on 3/14/12 (13% growth).

Coralville, IA-based PANCHERO’S MEXICAN GRILL (founded 1992) has increased by 9 units, from 56 to 65 (16% growth) and entered into IN.  This fast casual Mexican concept is open for lunch and dinner, with a $4-$12+ per person price range.  Locations serve beer and wine and seat about 80.  Online ordering is available.  Units are franchised and trade in AZ, CO, CT, FL, IA, IL, IN, MD, MI, MN, MO, ND, NE, NJ, NY, PA, SD, VA, and WI.  We wrote about this concept on 5/8/12 (11% growth) and again on 12/11/12 (8% growth).

Covington, LA-based WOW CAFE & WINGERY (founded 2001) has increased by 2 units for the Wow Cafe & Wingery concept, from 60 to 62 (3% concept growth) and by 15 units for the PJ’s Coffee & Tea concept, from 51 to 66 (29% concept growth).  Overall company increase was from 111 to 128 (15% company growth) and entered into AR, AZ, MA, MI, and SC.  Both concepts are fast casual, with a $4-$12+ per person price range.  Wow Cafes serve beer and are open for lunch and dinner, with seating for around 90.  PJ’s Coffee & Tea is open for breakfast hours as well, with seating for about 30.  Locations offer catering, delivery and drive-thru services.  All stores are franchised and trade in AL, AR, AZ, CA, DC, FL, GA, KY, LA, MA, MD, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, NJ, NM, OK, PA, SC, TN, TX, VA, VT, and WI.  We last featured this company on 6/26/12 (14% company growth).

GOLDEN CHICK based in Richardson, TX (founded 1978) has increased by 18 units for Golden Chick, from 97 to 115 (19% growth).  These are quick serve chicken restaurants with seating for around 60.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $4-$12+.  Catering, drive-thru and delivery are available.  There is a second company concept called Jalapeno Tree (15 units).  Overall company increase is from 112 to 130 (16% growth).  Locations are more than 70% franchised and are in GA, OK, SC and TX.  We last reported on this concept on 6/26/12 (5% growth).
