Restaurant News Bites: Wendy's, Panda Express, Waffle House The Wendy’s Company has hired a new CEO and President to manage the fast food brand. Emil Brolick will assume the position on September 21st. He will undergo training and advisement from the former CEO, Roland Smith, until the year ends. Brolick played an influential role in shaping the company’s marketing plan in the 80s.

Firehouse Subs already lost the lawsuit over trademark infringement earlier this month, but now the business owners that pressed the suit will get a chance to sue for court fees. Heath Scurfield is expected to ask for over $400,000 to cover the fees incurred during the lawsuit. He owns Calli Baker’s Firehouse Bar & Grill.

The Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurants chain has added a variety of new menu items for calorie conscious diners. 10 new entrees with less than 600 calories are now available. Options include Moroccan Salmon, Spicy Shrimp Stir Fry, Creole Chicken and the Grilled Chicken Cashew Salad. Healthy side dishes like rice and vegetables are included.

Panda Express is taking its unique brand of Asian dining to Mexico. The chain officially entered the country on September 3rd with the opening of its first international location in Mexico. Franchise giant Grupo Gigante helped bring the quick service brand to the country. Panda Express focused on Mexico because it lacks a competitive, large Chinese food chain.

As National Waffle Week runs from September 4th to the 10th, music fans will get a chance to pick up the Waffle House Jukebox Favorites 2 CD. The chain is releasing the second volume of customer favorites pulled from jukeboxes around the country. The CD costs $10 and can be purchased from the Waffle House website.

Yogurt Mountain is adding two new flavors to their national line-up that are inspired by sweet camping treats. The S’Mores flavored frozen yogurt and the Graham Cracker flavor blend well together or stand alone. Each flavor has only 120 calories per serving. New toppings also include S’Mores Crunch bits and mini marshmallows.

Dickey’s Barbecue Pit is growing rapidly in California with a number of franchise agreements recently signed. The next opening will take place in Porterville. Another 11 are scheduled to open in other cities across the state before the end of the year. 171 locations currently make up the chain.

Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop is celebrating its 35th anniversary with the CAPpy Dance video competition. Facebook fans can upload a 35 second video of themselves performing an impromptu CAPpy Dance. The chain explains that the dance consists of the sudden expression of joy release upon planning a trip to Capriotti’s.
