The caveat on this topic is that no one management style is better than another and this particular item is about some styles and not all styles. You can draw your own conclusions. There are many different styles of manager, and I am sure the readers will also come up with their own types that they can immediately comment on. So here we go.
I have had the pleasure of working with a number of great managers in my career all of them had distinct and unique management qualities for some reason when combined with the overall personality worked.
The Overworked Manager
Without a doubt in our business, this is dominant style and one most staff members and senior management can identify with. This person has identified the main duties of their job and on a daily basis executes on the duties very well. Some of these duties are mundane, from answering phones to updating menus. They have gotten comfortable in their job to the extent that they don’t seem to have any extra energy to put into new concepts and shifts in job description or company goals. Sometimes are stuck in a rut.
