The Krystal chain is already well known for featuring customers and Krystal’s Eating Championship winners on their boxes and cups. However, last fall they asked their customers and fans to design their own custom Krystal box and submit their entries in the Design a Box Contest. Three winners were chosen for the Grand Prize. These three were picked by a combination of the votes of their fellow contestants and the creativity and graphic design skills displayed. These winners traveled to Chattanooga, Tennessee during the week of June 5th to enjoy their grand prize trip.
Brad Wahl, Vice President of Marketing for the Krystal chain, says that the contest was a great way to engage visitors and see the company through their eyes. The company received thousands of interesting, inspiring and beautiful box designs through the contest. The grand prize winners were Rhonda Freshwater from Brookhaven, Mississippi, Glenn Chandler of Auburn, Georgia, and Ashley Burroughs of Madison, Alabama. During their five day stay in Chattanooga, the guests enjoyed fun activities such as seeing Rock City and exploring the underground caverns at Ruby Falls.
The three winners also worked together to throw the starting pitch at a Lookouts game on June 7th. Finally, they enjoyed seeing the final printing of their designs on the classic Krystal box as they attended the Krystal Corporate Quarterly Luncheon.
The company had never ran a contest like the Design a Box competition before, but the popularity of it has encouraged the chain to continue it again later this year. The Krystal chain is an important part of the Southern landscape and has sold its signature Famous Krystal since opening in 1932. It is America’s second oldest fast food restaurant chain and is one of the few still operating today that was founded over 70 years ago.
