El Gaucho offering $50-$150 off to drive dinner business

To sell more dinners during their slow time of year, El Gaucho restaurants unveiled an unusual deal this week.

For a group of two to three guests buying at least two entrees, El Gaucho will take $50 off the bill. For four to five guests ordering at least four entrees, it’s $100 off. For six or more guests and at least six entrees, it’s $150 off.

This “Celebrate Life” offer is part of a series of eight-to-nine-day test campaigns “to see what people respond to,” owner Chad Mackay said.

It’s not that he’s hurting. As president and COO of Mackay Restaurants, he has El Gaucho steakhouses in in Seattle, Bellevue, Portland and Tacoma, plus a seafood restaurant, Aqua by El Gaucho at Seattle’s Pier 70. They are high-end restaurants that tend to draw corporate types entertaining business clients or locals celebrating big events with a splurge meal.
