After 'Restaurant Impossible' makeover, University Grill soldA handwritten sign posted on the front door of University Grill reads, “Closed for vacation,” and in a way, that’s true. The business has closed so its owners can spend more nights, weekends and vacations with family.

But the Burlington restaurant that landed a Food Network makeover last summer was sold Monday, despite an increase in customers after the show.

“I was spending too much time at the restaurant,” said Eleni Fotiou-Madren, who owned the business with brothers George and Manny Fotiou. “(I) just decided that family time was more important.”

With a degree in chemistry, Fotiou-Madren hadn’t been taught how to run a restaurant, but she began working at University Grill full time after being laid off from her previous job.
