Fazenda, a Brazilian grill with a unique concept, has opened in Kansas City. Fazenda offers traditional Brazilian churrascaria and specialty fare in a quick-service, casual style restaurant and —unlike other Brazilian restaurants in the metro area—allows you to choose your portions and pay by the plate.
“Fazenda offers a café-style Brazilian dining experience at affordable prices,” said Jeff Petersen, president & CEO. “In Brazil, this popular type of restaurant is called ‘comida por kilo.’ This quick-service concept showcases the centuries-old Gaucho tradition in preparing and cooking meat, while offering the high quality, variety and value that today’s consumers want.”
The “comida por kilo” or “food by the pound” option of Fazenda’s menu will offer a self-serve gourmet bar with 25 to 30 items to choose from, including assorted hot dishes, leaf salads, fresh vegetables, traditional Brazilian salads, American favorites, traditional beans and rice, seafood , Brazilian stroganoff, pasta, soup and more. Guests can also choose as much or as little as they would like from up to eight different cuts of top-grade, wood-fired rotisserie-cooked skewers of beef, pork and poultry. A small traditional menu serving appetizers, sandwiches and salads will also be available, as well as beer, wine and a limited selection of cocktails, such as the popular Brazilian caipirinha. Guests then can order beverages, pay and seat themselves in the contemporary, family-friendly dining room to enjoy their meal.
While Kansas City is familiar with Brazilian cuisine, the “comida por kilo” concept is the first of its kind in the area.
“We hope to show Kansas City that quality Brazilian cuisine can be casual and affordable,” said Petersen.
Petersen and Fazenda executive chef, Doug Miller, both began their food industry careers in Kansas City, which includes previous experience at Piropos and Em Chamas.
Fazenda is located at 8626 North Boardwalk Ave., Kansas City, Mo. 64154, which is within The Shops at Boardwalk, just north of I-29 and Barry Road. Hours of operation are Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
