Reaching a significant company milestone, the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation recently announced a record 48 approved grant requests, valued at more than $550,000. Since 2005, more than $3.1 million has been allocated to public safety entities in nearly 275 communities. The funding and resources from this round of grants will assist fire departments, police departments and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) in fifteen states across the country.
With the main goal of providing first responders the proper equipment needed to save lives, items being donated include police cars, a rescue boat, turnout gear, extrication equipment and dozens of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) which will allow departments to be prepared to provide life-saving assistance if a citizen goes into cardiac arrest. In almost all instances, the donated tools would otherwise be unavailable due to city budget constraints.
“Our local heroes need to be prepared at a moment’s notice to protect and save lives, we are thrilled to positively impact so many communities through this round of donation approvals,” said Robin Peters, executive director of Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. “Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, with the support of our restaurants, is truly dedicated to equipping, educating and funding first responders.”
The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation plans another round of grant allocations in January 2012.
Each restaurant recycles leftover, five-gallon pickle buckets and sells them to customers for $2. Donation canisters on register counters explain the non-profit’s mission and collect spare change, while the round up program allows guests to literally “round up” their bill to the nearest dollar.
In 2005, Firehouse Subs created the non-profit, Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, with the mission to provide funding, life-saving equipment and educational opportunities to aid first-responders. Through the non-profit 501(c)(3), they have given more than $3.1 million to hometown heroes, including fire and police departments and EMS organizations.
