Food on wheels is challenging, fun for Oklahoma couple

Larry Starns enjoys cooking so much, he catered his own wedding.

Then he and his bride decided to launch a food truck business.

“I’ve been smoking meats for over 30 years, but I didn’t want a restaurant,” he said. “It leaves you too tied down.” Last week, Larry and Nancy Starns served up some juicy slow-cooked treats from their recently purchased and heavily renovated trailer.

The business, Smokin’ Okies, was parked at a south Edmond retail strip mall, and customers were just beginning to arrive. The operation has been in business since September, visiting festivals and workplaces as the Starns try to create a regular clientele.
