Uptown coffee shop to bring the brand back to the neighborhood where it began with a refreshed design, patio and longtime favorites
New Orleans, LA (RestaurantNews.com) PJ’s Coffee is returning to its roots with a new location at 7700 Maple St., just blocks from where founder Phyllis Jordan opened the brand’s first one – PJ’s Coffee & Tea Co. – in 1978.
Located between Carrollton Avenue and Broadway Street, the approximately 1,600-square-foot coffee shop will bring the New Orleans-born brand back to where Jordan first introduced her vision for a neighborhood coffeehouse. The new location will feature a refreshed PJ’s Coffee design, indoor seating and an outdoor patio.
While PJ’s Coffee has grown from its original Maple Street shop to nearly 200 locations across the U.S. and internationally, the brand has remained intentional about carrying the character of its New Orleans beginnings into every coffeehouse. Whether a PJ’s is around the corner in New Orleans or thousands of miles away, the goal is to make that first step through the door feel unmistakably PJ’s – from the aroma of 100% Arabica beans greeting guests to the coffeehouse atmosphere inspired by the place where it all began.
That connection will be especially meaningful at the new Maple Street location, where the sights, sounds and aromas of a modern PJ’s Coffee will meet a neighborhood deeply connected to the brand. Guests can expect the familiar flavors that have made PJ’s a New Orleans coffee staple for nearly five decades, from hot, iced and frozen coffee beverages to its signature Original Cold Brew, classic beignets, fresh breakfast pastries and other café favorites.
“We’re excited to bring PJ’s Coffee back to where it all started,” said Paul, Steven and Scott Ballard, brothers and co-founders of Ballard Brands. “Maple Street means a great deal to the PJ’s Coffee community, and we’re looking forward to being part of the neighborhood again.”
The refreshed space will pair those longtime offerings with a contemporary design, creating a neighborhood gathering place that reflects the evolution of PJ’s while honoring the traditions that have connected the brand to New Orleans since Jordan opened the original shop.
Jordan’s approach to coffee – centered on high-quality Arabica beans, careful roasting and a passion for the craft – helped establish PJ’s as a fixture of New Orleans coffee culture. Today, that same commitment extends across the brand’s growing footprint, with each location designed to deliver a distinct PJ’s Coffee experience while remaining connected to its New Orleans foundation.

About PJ’s Coffee
Phyllis Jordan, a pioneer in the coffee industry, founded PJ’s Coffee of New Orleans in 1978 and demonstrated that better beans, superior roasting techniques and pure passion for the art of coffee-making mattered. In 2008, the company was purchased by New Orleans natives and brothers Paul, Steven, and Scott Ballard. PJ’s Coffee serves a wide variety of hot, iced and frozen coffee beverages using only the best quality Arabica coffee beans, as well as organic tea and fresh breakfast pastries. PJ’s Original Cold Brew™ Iced Coffee is brewed daily using a special cold-drip process that protects the flavor and strength of the beans while producing a coffee that is two-thirds less acidic – a process and technique developed by its founder and used for more than 45 years at all PJ’s locations. Bags of whole-bean coffee and single-serve cups of PJ’s Coffee are available for sale in-store and online. With nearly 200 operating stores, including four international locations, PJ’s Coffee continues to grow in the U.S. and abroad.
