Restaurant at Center of Immigration Controversy

Two current managers and three former supervisors of a popular Houston-area restaurant chain have been indicted and accused of hiring undocumented immigrants.

A federal grand jury returned a five-count indictment under seal Wednesday against Mambo Seafood operations manager Joel Moreno, 36, former restaurant managers Alfredo Aguilar Gonzalez, 43, and Alejandro Aguilar Gonzalez, also known as Eduardo Martinez, 27, former supervisor Victor Batz, 49, and current supervisor Romelia Lopez, 26.

Each of the people indicted were charged with conspiracy to encourage and induce aliens to illegally reside in the United States and making false statements on employment documents during the existence of the conspiracy. The undocumented immigrants were harbored in the Houston area since April 2009, according to a statement released Thursday.
