Restaurant nears settlement for playing songs without license

Ron’s Landing is close to a settlement with the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers in a federal copyright infringement lawsuit that alleges the restaurant played live renditions of copyrighted songs, including the Gershwin classic “Summertime,” without a license, according to a lawyer in the case.

Attorney Gary Lane, of Ransmeier & Spellman in Concord, said Monday an out-of-court settlement in the case has been reached but it’s not yet finalized. Lane represents Warner Brothers Inc. and three other entities that own the rights to songs allegedly played at the restaurant on May 31, 2009, in violation of copyright laws.

“I can tell you nothing has been signed yet but I believe the case is close to being resolved,” Lane said.
