When Carlos Soto talks about the secret to his restaurant’s success, his explanation may be surprising.
“We work with a lot of the kids in the community by offering free meals when they reach reading goals,” Soto said of the incentive programs he participates in with area schools. “Of course we work to provide the quality meals at a good price, but rewarding those kids gets them to visit us with their family members to celebrate their accomplishment and that’s how we meet all the people in our community. Once they see that we are a local business and local people that want their children to be successful in life, they want to see us be successful too.”
After opening Burrito Grande on Washington Boulevard in Ogden with his family in 2000, Soto eventually realized he would need more space and in 2006 moved the restaurant to its current location — complete with 25 tables and 10 full-time employees.
