Rising costs send up prices at McDonald’s China

McDonald’s Corp raised menu prices in mainland China to offset higher food costs in the world’s fastest-growing major economy.

The No. 1 global restaurant chain, famed for its hamburgers, French fries and drinks, said it raised prices by 0.5 to 1 yuan per item, which works out to about 8 to 15 U.S. cents. McDonald’s did not say how much prices rose on a percentage basis.

“Because some materials prices have increased, we have adjusted menu prices accordingly,” a McDonald’s (China) Co Ltd spokeswoman said.
