More than a year after Meridianville restaurant The Main Dish received a $10,000 makeover on Food Network’s “Restaurant Impossible,” co-owner Lynn Tverberg insists the popular TV show hosted by British chef and restaurateur Robert Irvine is all reality.
On the March morning that the celebrity chef was scheduled to visit The Main Dish, Lynn, who opened the eatery six years earlier with her husband Ken, donned a human hot dog get up and danced in front of her restaurant to attract hungry drivers along U.S. 231/431 North.
“When I actually met Robert was that morning standing in that hot dog costume,” Lynn recalled Monday morning in Huntsville. “He did not read our bio, did not know our full names and didn’t know anything until he showed up that very minute. A lot of people say it’s scripted, that it’s a reality show, but it’s not. He didn’t know us from Adam until he saw me standing in that hot dog costume.”
