Williamsburg, VA (RestaurantNews.com) For 45 years, many locals, their guests and tourists have enjoyed The Whaling Company’s quality fresh seafood and many other entrees at affordable prices. That is the main draw. But The Whaling Company is also proud to be locally owned and employee operated, the kind of restaurant where both staff and diners measure their connection in decades.
The owner, Stephen York, has been affiliated with The Whaling Company since it opened in 1980, and has recently become the sole owner of this landmark on McLaws Circle.
They have always specialized in simply prepared fresh fish at reasonable prices. All of their fresh fish is sourced from highly respected local purveyor, Sam Rust Seafood. The panfried fresh flounder is one of their most popular, especially when served stuffed with crabmeat imperial and topped with hollandaise.
Their French onion soup and clam chowder are still made the same way with the recipe used for 45 years. All sauces and desserts are also homemade.
They’ve recently added seafood platters built to share, which can include lobster tails, crab legs, scallops, lump crabmeat, peel and eat shrimp, and steamed middle neck clams. They love seeing guests try to save room for the ice cream mud pie dessert.
The Whaling Company opens daily at 4:00, happy hour in the lounge with $1.00 draft Bud light served in a frosty mug from 4:00 til 6:00 each day. Several large dining rooms with room for celebration gatherings. Kids meals start at $7.95. Eat here and you will understand The Whaling Company difference and become part of the family.
