McDonald’s owner enjoys supersize success

Maurice “Moe” Collins said sales volume at his McDonald’s restaurant along U.S. 123 in Easley was already tops for the chain in South Carolina when he demolished the building —and another restaurant building next door — to build a new McDonald’s with more space. He expects sales to be twice the national average after the new restaurant opens in October.

Collins said the volume isn’t as high at his two other McDonald’s in Pickens and Powdersville, but it still exceeds the national average and has grown by about 600 percent at both locations since he bought them in the early 1980s.

Asked the reason for his business success, Collins gives one primary reason: the attention he’s paid to workers.

Nurturing employees, he said, builds loyalty and longevity and translates into excellent customer service.
