Chef Jean-Michel Bergougnoux Named Chef of the Year

The 300 chefs worldwide gather to nominate one Chef of the Year; this year, the honor has been bestowed upon L’Absinthe’s own Chef Bergougnoux.

Chef Bergougnoux has forty years of experience in the French culinary world. He began his career in Auvergne, and, through the years, advanced through various globally distinguished restaurants, such as London’s Connaught and New York’s Lutece. Bergougnoux took his career one step further in 1995 when he opened L’Absinthe, NYC French restaurant.

With this endeavor, Chef Bergougnoux sought to provide “simple, classic” French cuisine.  Some French restaurants in New York City focus too much on creating an imaginative menu that they forget about the customers’ wants; Chef Bergougnoux’s aim is to achieve the balance between offering creative, expressive dishes as well as wholesome French food that transports his patrons to the heart of Paris. This approach has paid off. Zagat states that L’Absinthe provides Old World dining “the way it used to be.” The restaurant was named Best Neighborhood Bistro by Time Out New York. Over time, L’Absinthe has garnered a reputation as the best French restaurant in NYC.
