Jack in the Box restaurants are enlisting the support of pointy-eared elves to help raise money during the holidays for Big Brothers Big Sisters, the nation’s largest donor-supported network of volunteer mentors of youth. Beginning this week, participating Jack in the Box restaurants are selling a limited-edition ornament, featuring a Jack-style head sporting a green and white knit holiday cap and pointy elf ears, for just $1, plus tax, with proceeds going to Big Brothers Big Sisters, the primary charitable partner of Jack in the Box for more than a decade.
This is the fourth year that Jack in the Box has sold a limited-edition promotional item to raise funds for Big Brothers Big Sisters to provide long-term mentoring services to help children who face adversity succeed in school and in life. The previous three promotions were major successes, raising a combined total of nearly $1 million for the youth mentoring organization.
The majority of funds raised from this year’s antenna ball promotion will help provide mentors and ongoing mentoring support to children from military families with parents deployed overseas. Jack in the Box has been a long-time supporter of military families and helped launch Big Brothers Big Sisters’ Operation Bigs program in San Diego in 2004. The program initially served children and volunteer mentors from military families at Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base and has expanded throughout San Diego since then with support from Jack in the Box.
“Children in military families face unique challenges. Thanks to Jack in the Box and its continued generous support of Big Brothers Big Sisters’ Military Mentoring Program, we are able to bring our proven mentoring programs to more young people who need us,” said Big Brothers Big Sisters of America President & Chief Executive Officer Karen J. Mathis. “Big Brothers Big Sisters matches lead to measurable outcomes—educational success, avoidance of risky behaviors and delinquency, higher aspirations, improved relationships and greater confidence.”
