Cheba Hut Brings New Joint to Sooner Country

Counter-culture sandwich destination pairs 1970s crash-pad style with a full-service bar and late-night hours

Cheba Hut Brings New Joint to Sooner CountryNorman, OK  (RestaurantNews.com)  A fresh stop for hot subs, cold drinks and laid-back vibes is getting ready to roll into Norman. Cheba Hut “Toasted” Subs, the counterculture sandwich shop known for its chill atmosphere, cottonmouth cures, and bold flavors that hit just right, opens its doors at 1800 24th Ave. NW on Thursday, Nov. 5.

To mark the occasion, Cheba Hut is throwing a grand opening bash with swag bags for the first 100 guests and DJ Terpenoid on the decks starting at 5 p.m.

Just off Interstate 35, the restaurant sits about 10 minutes from the University of Oklahoma campus and even closer to much of the city’s student housing. Downtown Norman is also a quick trip away, putting it within easy reach of longtime locals, weekend crowds and road-trippers needing a pit stop.

The Norman opening brings the brand’s Oklahoma shop count to three, all from franchise partners Rose Taylor and Steven VanCauwenbergh, who launched the Uptown location in Oklahoma City and followed with Edmond in August.

“Norman is personal for me,” Taylor said. “I graduated from OU, and this town has the personality, energy and sense of community this brand runs on. I’ve joked from the beginning that Cheba Hut needs Norman, and Norman needs Cheba Hut. So this was never going to be a copy-and-paste location. We wanted a place that feels like it’s been here all along, and now we finally get to make that happen.”

Like every stop in the Chebaverse, Norman tells a local story through its walls. Joshua Finley‘s custom artwork brings a groovy 1970s crash-pad aesthetic to life, featuring a retro-inspired roller girl, psychedelic details, and playful nods to Norman’s personality. Paired with eclectic vintage décor and unexpected design elements throughout, the space captures the nostalgia of another era while staying true to Cheba Hut’s counterculture roots. It’s a one-of-a-kind atmosphere designed to give guests something new to discover with every visit.

Beyond the walls, the shop has a patio and a full-service bar, built for midday sub runs, a round after work, and the stretch of the night when the munchies show up uninvited.

For customers stepping inside for the first time, Cheba Hut serves more than 30 signature toasted subs inspired by classic cannabis strains and available in Nug (4-inch), Pinner (8-inch) and Blunt (12-inch) sizes. Fan favorites include the White Widow, loaded with chicken, bacon and ranch; the Kali Mist, a spicy club stacked with turkey, bacon and pepper jack; the Dank, a pizza-inspired masterpiece layered with pepperoni, salami, marinara and melted mozzarella; and the Griefo, a veggie-forward favorite piled high with cream cheese, guacamole and fresh greens.

The menu also features munchie-approved sides like pretzel nugs and garlic cheese bread, sweet treats including Krispy Bars and cookies, plus the legendary Kool-Aid bar that’s been a go-to remedy for cottonmouth since day one.

Cheba Hut Norman will be open daily from 10 a.m. to midnight.

With its mix of toasted subs, playful stoner humor, neighborhood-first mindset and a disrespectful mascot named “Flip the Bird,” Cheba Hut is ready to make Norman a little more dank, one toasted sub or Krispy Bar at a time.
